June 2010 newsletter ![]() I painted this landscape on wood a few months ago. Landscapes create a sense of expectancy by inviting one to contemplate that place just past the horizon, into the uunknown future. Jurgen Moltmann, a theologian, calls this the 'beckoning of the horizon.' He says, "God is the one who accompanies us and beckons us to set out. And it is God who, so to speak, waits for us around the next corner. From him there comes to us an unconditional love...Even on the false paths we take in life, God continually opens up surprisingly new possibilities to us."
The process of painting landscapes has been encouraging for me, as I contemplate my own hopes and dreams and am reminded that God is the one who waits for me around the next corner and is always opening up new possibilities to me.
